He brought a lot to the table I guess

Ballet Shade

Did you even know about this thing:

It was Pietragalla’s first big move – she added a cute boyfriend. No, no, I mean she added Julien Derouault’s idea of martial arts and street dancing into her choreography. Then they got married, his name got added to the company name and I have had to look away because it just never works out when a woman marries a guy 17 years her junior or whatever. Last photo i saw, she looked like his mom.

But he brought a lot to the table. Like ffs look at this photo from the show:

There were a lot of missteps in this production but multi media was new to a lot of dance companies etc and as was the case when I learned photoshop, they were heavy handed with the graphics. And then at the end there was this nonsensical pas de deux that seemed to say “hey, we’re dating” . It really didn’t seem to do anything but that. But I get it. They were both hot, he was and up and comer she was a brilliant bitch who doesn’t come to the US EVER and well well.

Also, aside from the usual Armand Amar the production featured The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers. And whatever, it was financed by Pierre Cardin for the fucking Beijing Olympics so maybe Pietragalla wanted to bury this things, good night.

Still ain’t spell checking.

When Ballet Attacks! #7

Ballet Shade, Stravinsky

How did this ever fly? A ballet that ends with people walking up stairs. To quite possibly the most beautiful 2 minutes ever to close a masterpiece. How was Stravinsky OK with this?

Enter this stupid play. Oh? It is choreography? What the hell?  It is the most anti-climactic thing I’ve ever seen on a stage with perhaps the exception of German performance art. And to the The Firebird closing minutes which are almost Divine at least angelic.

Every time I look at this I feel a little less guilty about slapping Fokine’s  great-granddaughter in her face at a German bar . I didn’t do that but it would have been funny right?

This choreography  is like the equivalent of watching people loading groceries into a minivan.

When Not To Throw Ballet Shade

Ballet Shade

Cecilia Kerche did something very big. something which would have consequences and divide people from her.  I took a look at her Facebook after she approved this article wrote with her story and it wasn’t the people supporting her that I noticed – it was the absence of those who probably should have been.

You know when we are young  we are stupid. We think whatever it is we’re doing will last forever and life will be the same and we will never be injured. Never sidelined , always special.

Heather Aagard, Joffrey

It’s nonsense.  I have watched some of the machinations of the dance world.  I’ve seen that many companies have no regard for their dancers most particularly for the women who may not have been famous but who have done something great to sustain the company when they needed it.
This does not seem like a reason to be casting somebody off but rather they should be celebrated.

This is a difficult thing to experience I imagine. That competition just to stay in the game all the while subjected to that Panic that you may lose your spot.

I think it’s possible in the dance world that stepping on others to get to the top is  an accepted practice. Perhaps even quietly encouraged. When we engage in that type of behavior there is no sacrifice in us.

Anna Simondi, Zurich

Show me an instance where a person makes a sacrifice to hurt others or to hurt them self. It’s impossible – a sacrifice is something done for good,  for the betterment of others , for our own survival and contribution,  and it is always something that hurts because your courage is all you have.

Those people you thought you had in your life very quietly slip away. And we are left with nothing but the sacrifice for the courage of our conviction. Is very hard to see the Dawn at that time – but it’s not necessary because when we have that kind of character there is always a lamp lit in the window for us. There is always a home because that light is coming from inside.

If you don’t sacrifice at some point  there will be no light for you and you’ll wander looking for that home from place to place empty with regret.

Someone told me to be careful who I step on on my way up because I will certainly see them again on my way back down.

I do not know the politics of what is going on in Rio de Janeiro. I do know the pain of rejection from your community also I know the guilt of being on the other side of it. We must always remember these things no matter shoes you are wearing.
